[dropcap]S[/dropcap]ri BV Kakkilaya was a tireless fighter for the causes of the poor, the downtrodden and the exploited working class. At a time when the basic rights of the working class were unknown, Kakkilaya and his comrades organised the beedi, tile, cashew textile and port and dock workers as well as the agricultural labourers in Dakshina Kannada and other parts of Karnataka state and led many successful agitations. His fight continued until only five days before he became seriously ill.
ಬಡವರು, ದೀನ ದಲಿತರು ಹಾಗೂ ಶೋಷಿತ ದುಡಿಯುವ ವರ್ಗದ ಹಕ್ಕು-ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಬಿವಿ ಕಕ್ಕಿಲ್ಲಾಯರು ದಣಿವರಿಯದೆ ಹೋರಾಡಿದ್ದರು. ದುಡಿಯುವ ಜನರ ಮೂಲಭೂತ ಹಕ್ಕುಗಳೇನೆಂದೇ ತಿಳಿಯದಿದ್ದ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಕ್ಕಿಲ್ಲಾಯರು ಮತ್ತವರ ಸಂಗಾತಿಗಳು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಹಾಗೂ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಬೀಡಿ, ಗೇರುಬೀಜ, ಹಂಚು, ನೇಯ್ಗೆ, ಬಂದರು ಮತ್ತು ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಂತಾದ ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕರನ್ನೂ, ಕೃಷಿ ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕರನ್ನೂ ಸಂಘಟಿಸಿ ಹಲವು ಹೋರಾಟಗಳ ನೇತೃತ್ವವನ್ನು ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ತಾನು ಗಂಭೀರವಾಗಿ ಅಸ್ವಸ್ಥನಾಗುವ ಕೇವಲ ಐದು ದಿನಗಳ ಮೊದಲು ಕಕ್ಕಿಲ್ಲಾಯರು ಪ್ರತಿಭಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗಿಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
